currently listening
there's this function in the myspace blog that allows you to show what you're "currently listening" to... reading... watching on dvd...
as much as i hate how commercial a site like that is, i do enjoy the opportunity to post that along with whatever else bloggy 1 is into sharing...
it's annoying, though, how they won't let you put down a tv show (instead of a dvd), or how you can't just put any record... (amazon doesn't carry everything, in fact)
anyways...
right now, i've tuned into the amazing carla bozulich and her mid-1990s los angeles band, the geraldine fibbers. the album is called "butch" (virgin 1997). she started out with ethyl meatplow, then went onto scarnella and a recent solo incarnation... she plays a lot with the amazing guitarist, nels cline, even now...
i got to see her live, for the first & only time, at the all tomorrow's parties pacific music festival in november 2004 (along with iggy & the stooges, the mars volta, cat power... missed mission of burma...damn...) wotta voice! so charismatic! edgy!
that album she put out in '03, a remake of willie nelson's "red-headed stranger" on the small label, dicristina stair builders records: awesome. complete with guest appearances by none other than willie n., himself... & i read a great article about her in spin magazine some years ago...a tough, supersmart, powerhouse...
i feel even that much more connected to her, 'cause during the mars volta set, we noticed her ditching out of the park, all by her lonesome, and she smiled when she saw that jay, sara, & i were all trying not to stare at her walking by... or, rather, all that i can personally attest to is that's how i was behaving...
would like to get to los angeles more in the coming months...
